Fighting Cancer –  Naturally Improving Your Odds

Cancer.

It seems to be EVERYWHERE now.

If you aren’t personally fighting it, odds are good that you know someone who is.

Cancer.

That one little word seems to evoke so much dread.  And it seems to instantly bring to mind the questions, “Is this the end? Am I going to die?”

The doctors talk about odds.  The odds of survival.  The odds that a given treatment will help.  The odds of staying in remission and for how long.  The odds of having a normal life.

But what if there was a way to stack the odds more in your favor?  What if there was something you had control over that could affect your outcome?  What if you didn’t have to just be a victim?

What if I told you that today was your lucky day?

I am a Holistic Health Practitioner.  I know how the body constantly works to repair and restore itself.  I also know what it needs in order to do so.  So let’s look at HOW you can meet those needs in order to help your body do what it is already designed to do.

Let’s start at the beginning, by acknowledging the fact that you’re going to have to make some changes.  Whatever you were doing before helped lead you to where you are now.  Something is going to have to change in order for your body to heal.  Now these could be simple changes or they could be drastic changes.  What kinds of changes are you willing to make?  If the answer is “none” then you might as well stop reading.  The rest of this post really won’t be of any help to you.  If your answer is more along the lines of “I’m not sure” or “Anything!” then let’s look at some changes that you can make that will assist your body in the healing process.

Change #1 – Diet

Food is the fuel that our bodies use to effect change.  The better the fuel we supply, the better and more efficiently our bodies can work.  So when your body is fighting an illness, especially one like cancer, you need to supply it with the highest quality fuel you can find.  Eat foods that are just LOADED with nutritional value: fresh organic vegetables, organic meats, and raw organic dairy.  If you can’t get fresh, then frozen is your next best option as it still preserves many of the nutrients in the food.  Avoid canned food, as the canning process destroys pretty much all of the nutrition that was in the food.  Why organic?  Fruits, vegetables, meats, herbs, and dairy that are certified organic have not been exposed to chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides.  These chemicals deplete the amount of nutrition available in the soil and thus the amount of nutrition available in the plants and animals you are consuming.  Remember, you want the HIGHEST QUALITY FUEL available to you.  In order to find the best food you can, you don’t even have to learn to interpret labels!  The most nutritious things won’t even have labels because they’re ingredients.  Start there.

While you’re adding in all the good things, don’t forget to cut out the things that are either feeding the illness or are actively harming your body.  Things like sugar, which feed yeast and cancer cells.  (In many ways artificial sweeteners are even worse, so don’t just trade out sugar for fake sugar.  Truly eliminate it.)  You’ll want to cut out things like preservatives, dyes, and “flavors”.  Things that are boxed, bagged, and convenient have been processed to the point that your body pretty much gets absolutely no nutritional value from it.  In fact, many times it takes more energy for the body to try and break down this non-food and eliminate the toxins within it than it can get out of it. . . leading you to an energy deficit.  Things that are “fortified” have been stripped of critical nutrition during processing and then they have attempted to put some of that nutrition back in.  It’s never as good as the original.

Stick with real food: things that grow in the ground, fall from the trees, fly through the air, swim through the water, and run through the grass.  For maximum nutrition you may even look into something like a raw food diet, since the cooking process itself can reduce the amount of nutrition available.

Change #2 – Detox

Did you realize that right now in 2025, we are exposed to more chemicals in 1 single day than our grandparents were exposed to in their entire lifetimes?!  That’s pretty crazy.  And all of those chemicals are having a devastating effect on our health.  Our bodies are oversaturated with things that are harmful.  The body’s main detox organ, the liver, just cannot keep up with the huge demand placed upon it.  So, in order to give your body more energy to fight illness and repair and restore itself, you’re going to have to give your liver less to do.  This topic is HUGE, so hold on to your hat.

The first thing we’re going to talk about may be a little unexpected: your skin.  Your skin absorbs EVERYTHING it touches.  Yep.  Everything.  So whatever touches your skin shortly makes its way into your bloodstream and then goes through the liver for filtering.  So what touches your skin the most?  Your clothes.  So the detergent you use when you wash clothes is important.  Is it full of fragrances? (Fragrance is just a catch-all term for chemical soup, as we really have no idea what makes up a fragrance anyway.)  Is it full of dyes?  Chemicals like SLS?  Consider switching to a plant based detergent or just using a simple DIY of vinegar and kosher salt.  Your liver will thank you.  What else is getting absorbed through your skin?  How about soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, lotions, cosmetics, and cleaners?  How many different unpronounceable chemicals does each of these items contain?  Start really looking at the labels of things that are touching your skin.  Are these ingredients going to benefit your health or harm it?  Again, I would suggest switching to products that are purely plant based and contain no artificial chemicals that are difficult for the body to break down.  (Personally I love the personal care and cleaning products from Young Living.  You can find them HERE.)

Next, let’s talk medications.  Every medication that we take also gets filtered through the liver.  So it stands to reason that the less we take, the less that the liver has to do.  It may be to your benefit to review the medications you are taking with your doctor and see if some can be eliminated.  Perhaps there are other options that would work as well or better for you.  There are also over the counter medications that you may be using on an as needed basis.  Are there herbs or essential oils that you could use in place of those OTCs?  The body doesn’t have to work nearly as hard to break down plants and plant products as it does artificial chemicals. Remember, we want as much of the body’s energy as possible going into fighting this illness.

While we’re talking about detox, I’m going to have to bring up the subject of poop.  Bowel movements are the main way your body gets rid of all the junk that the liver has cleaned out of your blood.  You should be having at least 1 good bowel movement a day, preferably 1 for each meal you eat.  If this doesn’t sound like you, you may have a problem.  Stool that stays in the body for long periods of time gives the body a more than ample opportunity to start reabsorbing all of the junk it was attempting to get rid of.  One reason you may be having trouble eliminating is lack of water.  Are you drinking the recommended amount of ½ your body weight in ounces of water each day?  Not soda, tea, coffee, or anything else.  Just water.  Lack of water can be a MAJOR contributor to poor bowel movements.  If you are drinking enough water and still having trouble eliminating, you may want to look into an herbal supplement to help you get things moving.  You may also want to look at the kind of water that you’re drinking.  Most city water treatment plants use chlorine to clean the water.  Chlorine is another harmful chemical that your body is going to have to filter out.  Why make the body’s job harder when you can filter that chlorine out ahead of time?

Now let’s spend a little time chatting about things you can do to actually help your liver do its job.  In addition to decreasing the amount of chemicals/toxins that you’re bringing into your body, you can also do some detoxing to help pull those chemicals and toxins out of the body.  One way of doing this is by soaking your feet in a solution of bentonite clay, Epsom salt, and clove essential oil.  (Not all essential oils are the same.  I HIGHLY recommend Young Living oils due to their high quality.)  The combination of bentonite clay and clove oil will actively work to pull out chemicals and toxins through the skin.  The feet are ideal for this as the pores there are rather large.  Just make sure when you’re done to throw the water outside as the clay WILL clog up your household pipes.  To further support the liver you can add in an herbal supplement and/or use essential oils like orange and grapefruit which are particularly beneficial to that organ.

One last thing while we’re on the subject of detox.  You need to be aware of how your thoughts will influence how your body responds to this and any illness.  I actually did a deep dive into this subject in a previous blog post – How Our Health Reflects Our State of Mind.  Give it a read and then start working on detoxing your thoughts while you’re detoxing your body.

Change #3 – Oxygen

Cancer cells and other illnesses thrive in a low oxygen environment.  Increase the amount of oxygen available to your body by practicing deep breathing techniques.  This will have an added benefit of pushing toxins out of your lungs as well, so it’s a win-win!  There are some great YouTube videos out there demonstrating deep breathing techniques.  I particularly like the ones made for singers as they have very practical tips.  Other methods of increasing the oxygen available to your body may include things like ozone therapy, bariatric chambers, and use of essential oils like frankincense.  Regardless which method you choose, your body will certainly benefit from having more oxygen available.

I know there is so much information in this blog post, but when it comes to supporting your body as it fights to restore you to a state of health, we’ve really only touched on the tip of the iceberg.  There are so many different methods, ideas, and products available to you that I couldn’t possibly mention them all, so I’ve done my best to condense it down to what I feel would benefit you the most.  If this whole thing is still feeling pretty overwhelming, perhaps you would benefit most from a personal consultation where we could sit down and talk about what would be most beneficial to you personally.  It would be my honor to walk alongside you as you work to help your body restore itself to a healthy state.  Contact us today to schedule your appointment.
