Why Look into My Eyes?

Looking at the eyes to learn about someone’s health is not a new practice by any means. It’s actually been around for thousands of years in places like China, Egypt, and Mesopotamia. The father of medicine, Hippocrates, is actually quoted as saying, “Behold the eyes, behold the body.”

The practice of Iridology as we know it today, has been around since the 1800s. We now know that because of the very structure of the eye and it’s interconnections with the brain and nervous system that the iris itself is connected either directly or indirectly to every organ, gland, and tissue of the body. That’s a lot of information that can be gleaned just from the iris itself!

In Iridology we look closely at the structure of the iris to gain clues about potential issues that the body may be dealing with. One of the simplest to spot is the iris color. Blue eyes generally indicate an overactive lymph system that can produce excess mucus, while Brown eyes generally indicate imbalances in the blood and circulatory system.

By putting together information gleaned from the iris with other signs from the body, we can discover which lifestyle changes or preventative measures would be most beneficial to each individual. This is why our natural health specialist wants to look deeply into your eyes.

For instance – This eye is considered “Blue” in iridology (there are only 2 colors) which shows a tendency towards lymph issues. (Think mucus membranes – sinuses, lungs, gut, etc.)
The fibers of the iris are very spread out, which shows that this person has a tendency to have trouble absorbing and holding on to vitamins and minerals, so they may not have as much stamina as people who don’t have trouble absorbing vitamins and minerals.
The orange and brown pigments around the iris points to a liver that could use some support.
There’s a LOT more there, but this kind of gives you some of the basics of what an iridologist can see in your eyes.
