Of all the things I have learned so far in school, this is probably THE most controversial to date. So I would like to preface this blog by saying: if you have a strong conviction in this area, I am not encouraging you to go against your convictions. What I am going to do is share my thoughts on the matter.

In order for this conversation to make any sense whatsoever, we need to get comfortable with the thought that everything, all matter, is really made up of energy. So all of the things that we can see, hear, smell, taste, and touch though they seem solid to us, are really mostly made up of empty space.
That may sound a little strange. But think about it. We know that our bodies are made up of cells. Each cell is like a small city, made up of structures that act like power plants, manufacturing plants, massive libraries, etc. Each small structure is made up of building blocks, like proteins. Each building block is made up of molecules. Each molecule is made up of atoms. Each atom is made up of subatomic particles, protons, neutrons, and electrons. Each subatomic particle is made up of smaller particles. It gets to the point where you can’t really find a particle to measure anymore, but what you do find is a vibration. Energy. All matter is made up of energy. What differentiates the types of matter is the speed at which the energy that makes it vibrates. Vibrational speed of energy is called frequency. (Yes, very similar to the frequency you tune your radio dial with.)
Are you with me so far? So if all matter is energy that has a frequency, a rate of vibration, what is sickness but a change in that rate of vibration? And we find that this is so. Studies have been done that measured the frequency put off by healthy bodies and sick bodies. The sick bodies were found to vibrate at a much lower, or slower, frequency than the healthy bodies. When the frequency got slow enough, the result was death. Higher frequencies corresponded with more health.
So the above deep understanding of matter is the premise upon which all energy medicine is built. There are many modalities of healing which fall under the heading of energy medicine, and crystals happens to be one of them.
So can crystals, or rocks, actually facilitate healing? The short answer would be “yes.” Rocks and crystals also vibrate at a natural frequency. By introducing the proper frequency into the electrical field of a sick body, it encourages the body to come back to, or match the proper frequency of health. Sounds so simple! In many ways it is. The hardest part is just figuring out which frequencies the body needs to be introduced to.

In much the same way that one uses a tuning fork to set the frequency of vibration for a musical instrument, natural substances like rocks and crystals can be used by the body to set the frequency of our cells.
In my experience, and through this understanding, the size or shape of the rock or crystal used to facilitate healing really doesn’t matter. All that matters is the frequency at which the crystal is vibrating and that it is within a few feet of the person who will benefit from it. So say, placed on a nightstand while you sleep would be just as beneficial as keeping a small piece in your pocket during the day. Doing both would expose the body to a constant beneficial frequency, which does the most good.
Many of the arguments I’ve heard against using crystals at all for healing really don’t come from a physical or energetic argument, but rather from a spiritual one. I respect that. We are all on our own spiritual journeys and have to look at things through the lens of our own understanding. My understanding is this: The Creator of all things made us to be well. He delights in our wholeness and gave us good gifts to use in order to experience that abundant wellness that He intended for us. Rocks and crystals are just as imbued with the power of His voice as the plants of the ground, the water, sunshine, and all the rest of the Earth. I find that the use of rocks and crystals to facilitate healing is a very gentle method of encouraging the body to come back to a state of health. Frequency matching can take a while depending on how different the frequencies are, so crystal therapy may be one that is best used in conjunction with other therapies in order to attain the best health results. If the body is already in a state of health though, rocks and crystals can be used as wonderful preventative measures when exposed to unhealthy frequencies like EMFs or the negativity of others.
